The latest film news and previews from ODEON...
It fills us with joy that Arnie

THEY’RE BACK!
The Terminator returns, and he’s not alone…
iven that The
Terminator, the
surprise box office
hit of 1984, centred
around the concept
of time-travel, it’s rather fitting
that we’re here 31 years later and
the Terminator in question is
still on our cinema screens. And
that’s because the film was based
on such a cracking idea: that a
resistance leader named John
Connor, battling to exist in a
post-apocalyptic world where
machines have all but wiped out
humanity, sent someone back in
time to save the life of his mother,
Sarah, who is threatened by a
time-travelling cyborg. That

cyborg was played by the mighty
Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the
role that made him a huge star.
And the rest is history.
The first film’s success didn’t
end there either. Creator James
Cameron went big-budget for
sequel Terminator 2: Judgement
Day, which introduced a ‘good’
Terminator. The franchise went
darker for Terminator 3: Rise Of
The Machines, ending with the
apocalypse; and events went
darker still for the future-set
Terminator: Salvation, with
Christian Bale (Dark Knight
Trilogy) playing an adult John.
So what now? Terminator:
Genisys takes elements from all
of the films so far, mixing them
into a satisfying arc of past-andpresent storylines. Game Of
Thrones star Emilia Clarke is
Sarah Connor; Dawn Of The
Planet Of The Apes’ Jason Clarke
is John; there are new machine
threats aplenty and one old
friend – aka Arnie himself as the
trusty old T-800 who, happily,
just keeps on kicking.
With all of the massive
setpieces, mind-bending
temporal conundrums and
devastating drama we’ve come
to expect from this franchise,
Terminator: Genisys is set to feel
like being reunited with an old
friend with a facelift.
