“Whatever’s in there
has been safely hidden
for 2,000 years...”
Tom Cruise goes head
to head with a resurrected,
power-mad Egyptian queen
in this creepy, action-packed
reawakening of Universal’s
The Mummy franchise.
Just to be clear, this is
not a remake of 1999’s The
Mummy, the one with
Brendan Fraser and Rachel
Weisz, because that in itself
was a reboot. Nope, this is
a reimagining of the classic
Universal monster from the
1930s, 40s and 50s – think
the brilliant Boris Karloff
bandaged up to the nines.
The plot sees the Cruiser
accidentally discovering what
archeologists think is an
ancient tomb, but it turns
out it’s a prison – and now the
very thing that the Egyptians
were so desperate to keep
locked up has been unleashed
on the modern world. Yikes!
Co-starring Russell Crowe
as Dr. Henry Jekyll (he and
Mr. Hyde will be getting their
own reawakening in a few
years), this is a fantastic, thrill-
packed film that will have you
on the edge of your seat. A weekend getaway
turns murderous
for a group of four
friends after one of them
accidentally kills the stripper
they’ve hired to, erm, entertain
them. Talk about a come down!
Starring Scarlett Johansson,
Zoë Kravitz, Kate McKinnon
and Jillian Bell, this raucous
black comedy with have you
guffawing with laughter (when
you’re not, ahem, feeling sorry
for the dead dude, of course).
The scene where they “get
rid” of the body is worth
the admission price alone.
Naughty, raunchy, killer fun!
