Everybody wants to
be a cat? Uh-uh, not
Kevin Spacey, he’s
pretty cross about it!

Lights
Out
She’s waiting...
In 2013, a
horror short
went viral. In it,
a mysterious female
figure appeared every
time the lights went out.
It was well produced, it
was innovative – but,
most of all, it was
blooming terrifying.
It was so effective,
in fact, that it grabbed
the attention of The
Conjuring director
James Wan, who helped
usher a feature-length
version into existence,
with the short’s director
David F. Sandberg
behind the camera.
Lights Out (which
was also the title of the
short) is the brilliant,
scary result.
Starring Teresa
Palmer (The Choice) and
Maria Bello (Demonic),
the film takes the simple
premise of the short
and spins a horrifying
tale from it, in which
a series of characters
are plagued by a ghostly
female entity – but only
when the lights are out.
An absolute must-see
– just not on your own!

Nine Lives
Kevin Spacey gets his whiskers in a twist!
This terrific family
comedy sees the
usually serious Kevin
Spacey (The Usual Suspects,
American Beauty, TV’s House
of Cards) playing a cat. And
a very grumpy one at that...
The Oscar-winning actor
doesn’t start out as a moggy,
he starts out as Tom Brand,
a wealthy business tycoon
who has a tendency to put
his work before his loved
ones (shame on you, Kev).
When Brand is late for
his daughter’s birthday yet
again, his fed-up wife Lara
(Jennifer Garner – Dallas
Buyers Club) demands he
make up for it with a really
special gift, so he stops off
at a pet store to buy his little

girl a much-wanted cat. Only
this isn’t a normal pet store.
Not by a long way...
Following some weird
goings-on, Tom loses
consciousness, and the next
thing we know, he’s a cat! The
store’s odd owner Felix Grant
(the hilarious Christopher
Walken – Catch Me if You Can)
tells him he has one week to do
the right thing by his family or
he’ll be stuck as a feline forever.
It’s been a while since we
had a decent body swap comedy
(ironically, the last one was
probably 13 Going on 30, also
starring Jennifer Garner), so
we’re looking forward to Nine
Lives. After all, with a cast that
includes Spacey and Walken,
it’s bound to be puuuuurfect.
