The Queen of Hollywood
meets the Queen of England

H

eld at the ODEON Leicester
Square in 1956, The Battle of
the River Plate premiere was
a historic affair, with Queen Elizabeth
II and Marilyn Monroe in attendance.
The Hollywood starlet was in the UK
filming The Prince and the Showgirl
with Sir Laurence Olivier. It was the
actress’ only visit to England. Her
Majesty, who celebrated her official
90th birthday in June, was present
with her sister Princess Margaret.
