Mechanic:
Resurrection
The Stat is back – and
he’s mad as Hell!
Jason ‘The Stat’
Statham is at
his burly best
for this thrill-a-minute
sequel to 2011’s fullthrottle actioner
The Mechanic.
Co-starring Jessica
Alba (Sin City), Tommy
Lee Jones (No Country
for Old Men) and
Michelle Yeoh (Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon),
Resurrection sees
Statham’s elite assassin
Arthur Bishop being
strong-armed into
returning to his
contract-killing ways
after the love of his
life is kidnapped.
In exchange for his
girlfriend’s safe return,
Bishop must carry out
three impossible ‘jobs’
around the globe, each
time making it look
like an accident.
If you loved the first
one, then you’re going
to go absolutely nuts
for this. It’s bigger,
ballsier and a whole lot
barmier. Plus, just look
at that supporting cast
– what a line up!

Ben-Hur
Jack Huston steps into Charlton Heston’s sandals
Based on Lew
Wallace’s 1880 novel
Ben-Hur: A Tale of
the Christ, this full-blooded,
historical actioner sees
nobleman Judah Ben-Hur
(Jack Huston – American
Hustle) being falsely accused
of a terrible crime by his
adoptive brother Messala
(Toby Kebbell – War Horse).
After many, many years
as a Roman slave, the Jewish
prince manages to escape.
His only desire? To seek
revenge on the man who so
terribly wronged him, and
brought about the deaths of
his beloved mother and sister.
“My family... they deserve
justice for what’s happened
to them,” growls Huston in

the trailer. “There is a way,”
replies Morgan Freeman
(The Shawshank Redemption),
who plays Sheik Ilderim,
an Arab who aids Ben-Hur’s
quest for retribution. That way
turns out to be chariot racing,
as Ilderim explains: “In the
arena, there is no law. Racing
is a bloodsport. If you lose, you
die. If your brother is the pride
of Rome, defeat him and you’ll
defeat an empire. Then you
will have your vengeance!”
There have been two
Ben-Hur film adaptations to
date, most notably the 1959
Charlton Heston starrer, which
won a staggering 11 Oscars.
With Huston holding the
reins, this looks to be a more
than worthy third outing.
