Gentleman’s agreement Alec Guinness accepts a BAFTA on behalf of his Ladykillers co-star t was with obvious delight that Alec Guinness accepted a BAFTA on behalf of 77-year-old actress Katie Johnson – his co-star in the 1955 Ealing Comedy, The Ladykillers. The film won two awards at the ceremony, which was held at the ODEON on 1 March 1956, including Best British Actress for Johnson and Best British Screenplay for William Rose. Standing alongside Guinness is an equally thrilled Betsy Blair, recipient of the Best Foreign Actress gong for Marty. Guinness, an eventual fourtime BAFTA winner, was knighted three years later by Her Majesty the Queen.
