James’ ‘erotic’
romance novel Fifty Shades
of Grey was only published
as an ebook in 2011 and
yet – to date – has sold more
than 125 million copies,
making it one of the most
successful books of all time.
During those six years,
it’s also been translated
into an incredible 52
languages, adapted for
the silver screen (where it
generated a staggering £451
million at the worldwide box
office), and spawned two

equally lucrative – books.
This February sees an
adaptation of the first of
those sequels, Fifty Shades
Darker, arriving in cinemas.
With Jamie Dornan (Paul
Spector on TV’s The Fall)
and Dakota Johnson (How
to Be Single) both reprising
their roles, the plot sees
the ‘relatively’ innocent
Anastasia Steele (Ana for
short) attempting to move
on from her ‘liaison’ with
Christian Grey, the enigmatic
billionaire who took her
virginity in the first film.

Ana was unable to cope
with Christian’s unusual
bedtime habits, but now
he wants her back and he’s
prepared to change his ways
– and preferences – to make
this happen. But this is a
man with a lot of baggage
(including several unstable
former ‘girlfriends’) as
Ana is about to discover.
Can the would-be soulmates
make this thoroughly
