Watch the trailer things you need to know about… 1 It’s adapted from John Bellairs’ 1973 novel Aimed at kids who don’t scare easily, The House With a Clock in its Walls is the first in a series of Gothic horrors about young orphan Lewis Barnavelt and friends. It’s about ‘time’ Jack and Cate were in the same movie The House With a Clock in its Walls 2 Eli Roth directs Roth is a big deal in the horror genre, having helmed the anything-but-child friendly Hostel. He’s toned it down (considerably) for this one and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares. The trailer suggests very well indeed. 3 It’s got a magical cast In addition to the cuter-than-cute Owen Vaccaro as Lewis, this must- see adventure also stars Jack Black as Lewis’ dotty uncle and Cate Blanchett as the friendly witch next door. 4 The story will keep you guessing The team behind the film is staying understandably tight-lipped about the finer details of the plot, but if the book’s anything to go by, expect scary, fantastical twists galore. 5 Eric Kripke wrote the script Horror devotees will recognise Kripke’s name immediately. He’s the creator of the spooky, smash- hit TV show Supernatural. In other words, he’s definitely the right man for the job. The House With a Clock in its Walls tick-tocks into cinemas on 28 September One to watch Jacob Tremblay In truth, we’ve been watching Jacob Tremblay for quite a while now. His turn in 2015’s Oscar-winning Room was so affecting that we still tear up a little when we think of it – and he was equally brilliant in last year’s Wonder. You can see the talented 11-year-old next in The Predator. He plays a kid who inadvertently summons the merciless alien hunters back to Earth. Uh-oh! The Predator – unleashed in cinemas from 13 September – expect it in 2020 • Captain Marvel has added Annette Bening to its cast @ODEON @odeoncinemas @ODEONCinemas odeon.co.uk 31
