“Clever girl!”
(Jurassic Park)
Raptors in the long
grass (The Lost
World: Jurassic Park)
Spoken by Jurassic Park’s
seasoned game warden
Robert Muldoon when he
realises he’s been outwitted by
a female raptor and pal. It’s
arguably the most quoted line
of the entire series, and the
last thing Muldoon ever says...
“Mommy’s very
angry!” (The Lost
World: Jurassic Park)
Another often quoted
line, this time delivered by the
indomitable Dr. Malcolm. He’s
referring to the furious female
T-Rex whose injured baby
Sarah Harding and Nick Van
Owen are attempting to treat.
Not-so-good
vibrations
(Jurassic Park)
Our first glimpse at
the T-Rex is director Steven
Spielberg at his finest. As the
beast approaches, the glasses
of water on the car dashboard
start to judder. Then we see
that the goat is gone... Gulp!
“What is that thing?”
(Jurassic World:
Fallen Kingdom)
In addition to rescuing
dinos and dodging lava, Fallen
Kingdom sees Claire, Owen
and kids (there are always kids)
uncovering a conspiracy that
threatens the entire planet, cue
Claire’s ominous question...
Aviary attack
(Jurassic Park III)
“Oh my god, it’s a
birdcage,” realises Alan
Grant a fraction too late, as
a massive Pteranodon appears
out of the gloom in front of
horrified 12-year-old, Eric
Kirby. Making things even
creepier, it’s walking. Shudder!
Less is often more when it
comes to creature features, and
so it proves here. Unleashed
in the long grass, the raptors
– almost unseen – pick their
human victims off one by one.
It’s the stuff of nightmares.
“Life finds
a way”
(Jurassic Park)
A meditation
on the perils
of playing god
as much as a monster
movie, Jurassic Park
asks the tough questions.
Or rather Ian Malcolm
does. The charismatic
chaotician is vehemently
against InGen’s
meddling, convinced,
that no matter how
many precautions they
take, life will not be
contained. And he’s right.
First encounter
(Jurassic Park)
Jurassic World’s epic
final act sees a three-way
throwdown between the
Indominus rex, the T-Rex and
Blue (Owen’s favourite raptor).
But – in the monster of all
twists – it’s the Mosasaurus
that has the last word. Chomp!
Pulling the shades from
his eyes, Alan Grant
stares agog at the
Brachiosaurus walking
in front of him,
in what is
surely one
of cinema’s
greatest
ever scenes.
“Welcome to Jurassic
Park,” smiles John.
25 years later, it still
gives us goosebumps.
