Harrison Ford goes back to the future, but will there be unicorns? MUST-SEE OF THE MONTH Blade Runner 2049 TBC In this superb sci-fi sequel, a secret is uncovered that threatens society... DIRECTOR Denis Villeneuve STARRING Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas When we first heard a sequel to Blade Runner was in the works, we were a little unsure. Ridley Scott’s 1982 original is a defining film within the science-fiction genre, universally acclaimed by fans and critically adored. How could a new one possibly measure up? But then we found out that Harrison Ford was returning as Rick Deckard and that it was being helmed by Denis Villeneuve. Villeneuve, of course, is the director behind last year’s phenomenally good sci-fi drama, Arrival. (Seriously, if you haven’t seen this yet, catch it any way you can, it’s incredible, with a to-die-for twist.) Our mind, ladies and gents, was rapidly changing, and that u-turn was fully completed when we realised that Ryan Gosling (Drive, La La Land, The Big Short, The Nice Guys) had the main role – with Robin Wright, Jared Leto and Edward James Olmos offering tried-and-tested support. The truth is we needn’t have worried at all, because Blade Runner 2049 is fantastically good. Set 30 years after the original, it sees a new LAPD officer/blade runner named K (Gosling) discovering a long-buried secret that threatens the future of humankind. To fully understand the stakes, he must find former replicant-hunter Rick Deckard, who disappeared three decades ago... 6 OCT MOVIE MATHEMATICS + The future + Humans + Replicants Big twists = Blade Runner 2049 Watch the trailer or when accompanied by an adult 15 Suitable for ages 15+ 18 Adults only odeon.co.uk 23
