Watch the trailer American Assassin “The name’s Rapp... Mitch Rapp!” Based on Vince 15 Flynn’s hugely popular SEP novels, American Assassin follows the dangerous adventures of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien, who beat several older, more established actors to the role). After his girlfriend is killed in a terrorist attack, the devastated Mitch is employed by the CIA as a counterterrorism operative. Together with his mentor Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton – Birdman), Mitch investigates a series of seemingly random strikes on military and civilian targets. As it turns out, these attacks are far from random and are, in fact, being coordinated by a deadly operative known as the Ghost (Taylor Kitsch – TV’s True Detective). With the help of a fearless Turkish agent named Annika (Shiva Negar – Let’s Rap), can the US agents prevent a nuke from being detonated? Or is the world about to go up in flames? Explosive and exhilarating, American Assassin more than does justice to its bestselling source material. A must see! Flatliners The Limehouse Golem 0.11 There are some lines you shouldn’t cross... Although not the biggest of hits at the SEP time, the original Flatliners has become a cult classic over the years, thanks largely to its megastar cast – Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and William Baldwin – and its chilling conceit, that of students conducting near-death experiments and then paying the (terrifying) price! Directed by Niels Arden Oplev and starring J uno’s Ellen Page (who has yet to make a bad film as far as we’re concerned), this modern-day follow-up sees another batch of med students attempting the same experiment as their predecessors, namely stopping their hearts for a short period and then restarting them again. But as the trials become increasingly dangerous, they must each face the paranormal (and downright freaky) consequences of journeying to the other side. Yikes! With Sutherland reprising his role as Nelson (now a professor), plus some vastly improved effects, it’s highly unlikely this one will be dead on arrival come September. 29 Something wicked this way comes this autumn, as Bill Nighy discovers... 0.21 The film is based on Peter Ackroyd’s murder mystery novel. But who is the killer? 1.03 With a script by Jane Goldman, the characters are whipped into a Gothic frenzy. 1.32 Will the ‘Golem’ be unmasked before more innocent people are slaughtered...? The Limehouse Golem is in cinemas from 1 September • The Boss Baby is getting a sequel. ‘Due’ 2021, it will once again star Alec Baldwin as the suit-wearing tiny tyke odeon.co.uk 9 TRAILER BREAKDOWN
