Knives Out TBC Daniel Craig’s top ’tec must discover whodunnit! DIRECTOR RIAN JOHNSON STARRING JAMIE LEE CURTIS, DANIEL CRAIG, CHRIS EVANS, ANA DE ARMAS Rian Johnson follows up his divisive Last 29 NOV Jedi with a star-packed murder mystery that will once again have audiences hotly debating. Only this time in an entirely positive way! Knives Out, you see, is indisputably brilliant – a modern-day whodunnit that keeps you guessing without ever feeling contrived, and with an A-list cast doing some of their very best work. Daniel ‘James Bond’ Craig is Benoit Blanc, a detective called in to investigate the death of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). With the wealthy Thrombey having bitten the dust during a family gathering, Blanc smells the proverbial rat and deduces “foul play”. Suspects include Harlan’s daughters’ Joni (Toni Collette) and Linda (Jamie Lee Curtis) and his grandson Ransom (Chris Evans). Can Blanc get his man – or woman – before the killer strikes again? Meticulously plotted, blackly funny and surprisingly political, Johnson hasn’t reinvented the genre with Knives Out, but he’s certainly lit a fuse under it. Your move, Hercule! 6 ODEON.co.uk Watch the trailer Last Christmas 12A In this Wham!-tastic tale, jaded Emilia Clarke has given up on love. Can Henry Golding’s Tom change her mind? DIRECTOR PAUL FEIG STARRING EMILIA CLARKE, EMMA THOMPSON, HENRY GOLDING “I’m busy, you’re weird. Goodbye!” Directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) from a story by Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise, Last Christmas is a festive frolic inspired by the songs of Wham! and George Michael. It shouldn’t work but it does 15 NOV – brilliantly so, aided by charming turns from Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones’ Daenerys) as the ballsy but fragile Kate and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) as Tom, a handsome boy-next- door who tries to help Kate rediscover her yuletide cheer. An amiably dry (rather than saccharine sweet) fairy tale for our times. Give it your heart this Christmas! MISTLETOE AND (LOTS OF) WINE Plus four other things to expect from Last Christmas... TINSEL Our heroine Kate works in a year-round Christmas shop but actually longs to be a singer. BIRD POOP Kate’s first encounter with kindly Tom ends with an unwanted gift from the skies. A&E Christmas brings back bad memories for Kate. She spent her last one in hospital. GEORGE As Kate and Tom grow closer, she realises that sometimes you just ‘gotta have faith’. Watch the trailer
