Double the Will Smith
equals double the fun!
DIRECTOR Ang Lee
starring Will Smith, Mary
Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen
Every so often, a sci-fi
movie comes along
11
OCT
that’s so blazingly
original, it leaves your mind
boggling for days after you’ve
left the cinema. This year,
Gemini Man is that movie.
From the planet-sized
imaginations of veteran
screenwriter Darren Lemke
and Oscar-winning director
Ang Lee, this full-throttle
thriller introduces us to
Henry Brogan (Will Smith):
a greying government assassin
who finds himself being
hunted by a younger version
of himself (also played by
a digitally de-aged Smith).
As Brogan and his clone
lock horns in a duel that
neither can win, Lee pulls
out some of the most audacious
action sequences you’ll see
all year. But when both men
realise they’re being played by
a higher power – shady spook
Clay Verris (Clive Owen) – an
uneasy truce could be their
only chance for survival.
Following the madcap antics
of Disney’s Aladdin, it’s great
to see Smith back in ‘serious’
mode – in a double-impact
actioner that’s so good, you’ll
want to watch it twice.

Were you aware of Katharine
Gun’s story before taking the role?
I didn’t remember Katharine Gun.
I was pretty politically aware but
at that point I was in America, and
it obviously wasn’t really covered
there at all. So I thought it was
interesting that there was a story
that is such a significant part of
modern history that wasn’t really
known about or remembered.
You spoke to Gun as part of your
research. What did she tell you?
She’s in a tricky position because
if you question her on it, she still
is bound by the Official Secrets
Act... So I didn’t feel it was my place
to push her into revealing any more
than she felt comfortable with.
How tricky was combining filming
with a three-year-old daughter?
She was literally up five or six
times a night. I think it added a
particular vibe to my performance.
