this nail-biting thriller sees
Moretz’s kindly Frances
befriending Huppert’s lonely
widow, Greta. But what starts
out as a touching friendship
quickly turns into a waking
nightmare, as it transpires that
Greta is completely bonkers.
Trust us, you’ll be watching
this between your fingers. Any movie starring
Judi Dench is an
instant must-see in
our book, such is the great
Dame’s screen presence. Red
Joan is further proof of this,
with Dench simply fantastic as
Joan Stanley, a retired British
civil servant who, in her 80s,
is outed as a long-serving spy
for the KGB. Based on the
incredible true story of Melita
Norwood, this cracking thriller
is directed by theatre great
Sir Trevor Nunn, with Sophie
Cookson playing Joan in her
younger years. All in all, a
gripping character piece.
