She’s superb in both. Melissa McCarthy She’s one of Hollywood’s funniest women, but when it comes to this year’s Best Actress race, nobody’s laughing at Melissa McCarthy. As disgraced writer Lee Israel in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, the Bridesmaids star is utterly superb, managing to get you on side, even though her character is entirely unlikeable. She’s got tough competition, but it would be unforgiveable to rule her out. Emma Stone & Rachel Weisz Rivals in The Favourite and rivals in real life, too, with producer Fox putting each forward for ‘supporting’ glory.
