Ask Greta
Silly Snapshots
Dear Greta:
Every fall my neighbor rakes all his leaves right beside our property line and half of them wind up blowing onto my lawn. This is very upsetting and I haven ' t said anything about it but I ' d like to. Any suggestions that would let me keep the peace?
- Frustrated Neighbor
Dear Frustrated,
A friendly conversation is probably the best place to start. Choose a time when neither of you is frustrated and explain the situation without making it sound like an accusation. You might say,“ I know the leaves can be a real nuisance this time of year. I’ ve noticed that when they’ re raked along the property line, quite a few end up blowing onto my lawn. Would you mind raking them a little farther away from the line?” He may not even realize how much is blowing over. You could even offer to work out a simple solution together. After all, a little courtesy on both sides can go a long way toward keeping the peace- and keeping a good neighbor relationship intact.
