She is finally enjoying the stillness... for more than 20 years, Nicki Bluhm was on the road, coast to coast. With her band, she continually blurred the line between country-soul and cosmic rock & roll.
Then came the turning point- a marriage, divorce, and a move from California to Nashville. Her life has finally slowed down, and the result is her new collection of songs from the heart, Rancho Deluxe, released this month.
She is finding a life not dedicated to the music industry, but to the music itself. You can tell when you hear the initial single, Simple Side of Me. This Nicki is more controlled, still able to sing with passion, with a voice cut from the same cloth as Linda Ronstadt’ s croon and Bonnie Raitt’ s bluesy belt, but focused on the feeling, the drive to allow you to understand.
“ I’ ve been through a few dysfunctional romantic relationships,” Nicki admits.“ I’ m still in one with the music industry, and that’ s the only dysfunctional relationship that I’ ll still allow in my life- this is an industry where you gamble on yourself, and the sky’ s the limit … but there’ s no guarantee or linear trajectory, either.”
Rancho Deluxe has it all- and it is all Nicki Bluhm. And that ' s more than enough.
