The Lycoming County SPCA is the primary agency for investigating suspected animal cruelty cases . If you would like to report suspected cruelty , call 570-322-4646 to file a report for the Humane Officer . Information must be provided over the phone or in-person . Over 150 investigations have been conducted so far this year .
The shelter offers animal welfare services , such as microchipping and low-income spay / neuter assistance for pets . Microchipping is a procedure in which a microchip , the size of a grain of rice , is inserted under the pet ’ s skin . This acts like a sort of barcode that can be read with a microchip scanner . While a microchip cannot track your pet , it allows the animal to be identified and contact information to be obtained to help reunite your pet with you should they become lost . With this technology , the Lycoming County SPCA has reunited over 60 lost pets with their owners this year .
For low-income spay / neuter assistance ( available only to Lycoming County residents ), please call the shelter on the 1st business day of the month to inquire about scheduling a voucher appointment . Vouchers will cover the cost of the surgery , but do not cover other related fees , such as medications . Appointments are made first come , first served until program funds are depleted . To schedule a voucher appointment , you MUST call and speak with a staff member . We cannot accept voicemails , emails , or walk-ins to schedule low-income spay / neuter voucher appointments . The day of your appointment , you will need to complete an application and provide government photo identification and proof of any type of income for all individuals residing in the household . Depending on household income level - , there may be a small co-pay associated .
If you are interested in volunteering to support the efforts of the Lycoming County SPCA , submit your information at https :// lycomingspca . org / volunteer / or pick up an application at the shelter . Because of the sensitive nature of our work and potential liability involved , we can only accept volunteers ages 14 and over .
