The ASCE Region 1 Assembly took place on September 27th and 28th in Buffalo , New York , hosted by the Buffalo Section . In just a brief stay , it became clear that the city takes immense pride in two things : The Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Wings . The assembly was held at the historic Saturn Club , founded in 1885 . It was an excellent opportunity for representatives from all 13 sections and their associated branches to meet , network , and share valuable regional insights .
A key focus of the assembly was the future of civil engineering , which appears to be bright . As the political landscape shifts and the country prepares for a new administration , there is a strong sense that the work of civil engineers garners bipartisan support . This was echoed by both past and present ASCE presidents . This optimism is encouraging as we look to the future of our profession .
Additionally , student chapters in the region showcased their activities and fundraising initiatives as they aspire to become the next generation of civil engineers . Notably , students from the University at Buffalo were in attendance , having secured 2nd place at the national steel bridge competition .
Looking ahead , the next assembly will be hosted in Burlington , Vermont , in early spring . The Vermont Section is eager to welcome attendees , and the region looks forward to gathering once again to continue fostering connections and advancing the field of civil engineering and the organization .
