So , what happened ?? Updates on Hector , the kittens , & more !
It ’ s been a busy summer here . But many of you have reached out to see how Hector is doing after the injury to his tail . I am happy to report that his royal fuzzy self is completely healed . The only mark left from our scare about his broken tail ( which would mean a broken spinal column in a cat ) is a spot where I think his tail was shaved or clipped when we went to VCA Metzger ’ s as an emergency case . His tail flies high , almost as if it ’ s connected to the sky . He is still happy to see everyone and runs the shop with his usual flair . Look for him at the counter when checking out . He ’ s there for the pets and to inspect the sale .
What about the two kittens that survived in the story last month ? How are Bolt and Champ ? The good news is that they are still alive and gaining weight . But Panleuk ( Feline panleukopenia ) has changed their lives forever , for this disease often leaves its smallest victims with neurological damage . Bre Reynolds , one of their foster Pawrents explains :
“ Champ and Bolt have been diagnosed with Cerebellar Hyperplasia - the Wobbly Cat Syndrome . While they aren ’ t in any pain , this is a lifelong medical condition that causes them to be off balance . This means we need to ensure padding in the areas they ’ re in so they don ’ t get hurt !
These poor boys have been through so much in their short lives ! To top it off , their momma ( who we trapped and brought in but had to be quarantined after the boys were hospitalized ) has rejected them . They were separated a long time and , honestly , she ’ s so young she shouldn ’ t have had to be a mom in the first place . Hopefully when these boys become of age , someone is willing to give them a wonderful , loving home !”
Champ and Bolt are being fostered by Tami and Bre but will be up for adoption through Hope ’ s Dream Rescue as soon as they are old enough .
It ’ s time to get ready for the cold weather to come ! We know it ourselves , as we button up our houses . If you are feeding a stray , a cat cooler for shelter in the winter makes you a hero or heroine . They are currently available at the Clinton County SPCA , according to Chayna Guiswite . I asked about their current needs and Chayna put cleaning supplies at the top of the list . That includes liquid laundry detergent , dish soap , disinfectants , and even hand sanitizer . The other ongoing need is for food , both wet and dry , for dogs and cats . The food should be Purina brand . A quick survey of the other shelters and rescues around the area turns up the same list . So wherever you wish to donate , these are the items needed as we head into the fall .
