There ’ s only one person on stage , but as Ball performs " The Fine Beauty of the Island ," a whole culture appears before us . Through the voice of his harp , the lilt of his pennywhistle and the brogues of a pub full of characters , this contemporary bard casts a spell out of stories , researched history and the dark humor of the Irish .
