Korn and I wanted to offer up a huge thank you for making us an Editors ’ Pick and the cover of your August edition ! First off , the event was so much fun , and from a caterer ’ s perspective , we were in love with the food and drink . Since then , it ’ s been hard to see anyone without being complimented and congratulated on having our sandwich on the cover . It ’ s a nice recognition and we can ’ t thank you guys enough for that !

Excellence in Nursing , September
I look forward to reading my Rhode Island Monthly magazine . In the September issue , I found the interview of Crystal Williams by Nafis M . White provided a wonderful insight into the future of RISD , which will be an asset to the Providence community . Also , I eagerly anticipated reading the profiles on our state ’ s top nurses . As a former nurse , I like to see them honored for their dedicated service . However , after reading the profiles of these thirteen deserving nurses , I could not help but notice that not one of these individuals was Black . I find this very disturbing since we have a large number of outstanding Black nurses in Rhode Island , both male and female . This seems to underscore a basic lack of sincerity or , at least , an oversight , on the part of both Donna M . Policastro and John Palumbo , this magazine ’ s publisher . Inclusion was not a part of this project . I cannot believe that I am writing this letter in 2022 .

Publisher ’ s Note : Thank you for your feedback . We try to make the selection as impartial as possible . Nurse nominees are solicited from the community at large and selected by a panel of nursing professionals recruited by the Rhode Island State Nurses Association who review the nominations . In previous years , a diverse representation of nurses have won these awards .
