Last fall , award-winning photographer Wolf Matthewson headed to Lincoln and Newport to photograph the outdoor sets for our Hocus Pocus 2-themed feature [“ Casting a Spell on Little Rhody ”]. “ Photographing the set at Chase Farm made me feel like a time traveler ,” he says . “ Shooting for a couple of days , I had the sense from talking to fans and security that the burn was happening soon , so I had my long lens ready . The most amazing aspect was how controlled it all was with the flip of a switch .”

Rhode Island Monthly stylist Jackie Ignall helped gather quirky local T-shirts for this month ’ s style section [“ A Shirt Thing ”]. “ I loved finding different talented T-shirt makers in the state and seeing how each put their spin on fun Rhode Island sayings , landmarks and even some famous people ,” she says . “ They all made me chuckle and now I want to own a few of these T-shirts myself .”
Our resident columnist Ellen Liberman tackled the subject of tickborne illnesses in this month ’ s Reporter [“ Bugged Out ”]. “ I last wrote about the blacklegged tick in 2014 , as communities considered culling deer herds for tick control . It was time for a progress report ,” she says . “ I imagined I ’ d pick up where I left off ; instead , I was surprised to learn about a new looming threat . The Lone Star tick sounds like nasty business , so I will conduct all future hikes at the mall !”
