Phil Carr , 34 , is the broker-owner of Crowley and Carr Real Estate . Carr is a lifelong Hammontonian . He and his wife Alyssa have two children . Carr recently spoke to The Gazette about his life and a few “ final ” things .
What is the last professional sporting event you went to ? I haven ’ t been to an Eagles or Phillies game in a couple of years . It was my son ’ s first baseball game — against the St . Louis Cardinals . Bryce Harper hit a home run . I used to have season tickets but once you have kids . [ We have ] nearly-two-year-old Hank and a two-month-old , Lily .
When is the last time you went on vacation ? July . Ocean Isle , North Carolina . It was a good time . It is a newer resort area . We had a house right on the bay in walking distance to the beach . We are looking forward to going to Hershey Park for New Year ’ s Eve .
You and your wife Alyssa have a newborn . When is the last time you had a full-night ’ s sleep ? That ’ s a really tough one . She sleeps about six-toseven hours straight now .
What is the best advice you have ever received It was from my grandmother Annetta R . Crowley . A reputation takes a lifetime to build and only five minutes to destroy .

THE FINAL WORD

What is the last thing you discovered about yourself ? Having kids , you start learning to be more patient and adapt quicker . It is very similar in business . You want to stay positive and continuously keep a good mindset and realize there are a lot of things out of your control . The brain is a powerful muscle . Staying positive is three-quarters of the battle . Applying yourself is the next thing . That is in business and in life . Things are going to change drastically , I suspect , with the way interest rates are heading , with what the Fed is doing and the market . I have to realize that is out of my hands and work with what I am given .
Where is your favorite place in Hammonton ? I enjoy my house and the office even though it is a place of work . It sometimes serves as a little bit of a getaway . I feel more productive when I am there especially with everyone working from home .
When is the last time you played sports ? For the first time in about 12 years , I gave a shot at men ’ s league softball this summer . I realized I am not what I used to be . I immediately pulled my groin and put my shoulder out .
What is your last line of advice you would give to high school graduates ? I feel like in my age group , from elementary school and on up , that college is ingrained in you . That used to be a mind-set . You were brain-washed into thinking that . I am not saying college isn ’ t necessary . There are some careers where you need college degrees and more . With the way technology has been implemented today , there are so many creative ways that people can have their own business . People can become very successful . Social media has played a role in that too . You are not guaranteed a job that can cut down that debt as we were promised .
If you could only eat one thing for dinner for the rest of your life , what would it be ? Pizza or pasta . I love Italian food .

When is your favorite way to spend time with your wife ? We love to travel . On our honeymoon we went on a Mediterranean cruise . That was really something . It was bucket list stuff that you don ’ t forget . New Orleans is another favorite of mine . I proposed to my wife in Savannah , Georgia . That will always be special to me . I proposed on a marquee on an old theater in Savannah . We had a horse and carriage take us from the hotel . It was a rainy night . It was something out of the movies . There was a mist . We turned the corner and the marquee lit up and she said yes . She may regret that now . We look forward to traveling more once the kids are older .
THE MARQUEE IN SAVANNAH WHERE PHIL PROPOSED TO HIS WIFE , ALYSSA .
When was the last time you volunteered ? I participated in the Hammonton Blueberry Festival ; I was recently named Vice President of Kiwanis Club . I also serve on the Hammonton Education Foundation and we had a meeting last week . Crowley and Carr Real Estate is one of the sponsors of the HEF ’ s upcoming gala .
What brings you joy ? One of things recently , every night when I walk in the door my son sprints to me and gives me a big hug . Aside from family in general , helping out my clients . Real estate is one of the biggest transactions that someone has in their entire life . Coming to the end of a successful closing and knowing that is another person had a good experience . And knowing I played a role in that is just about a good of feeling as any .
