LIVIA SANTIAGO-ROSADO
MOSES BROWN SCHOOL, 1990
Dr. Livia Santiago-Rosado
has worked as an ER doctor
at some of the busiest
hospitals in the country,
and launched her career
as a candystriper at the
Miriam Hospital. Livia arrived
at Moses Brown in
junior year, looking for the rigorous courses
she needed for medical school. “My Moses
Brown experience was brief, but salient,” she
recalls. “I loved the extracurriculars, though I
got the most out of the teachers. They really
focused on learning how to think, how to interpret
data and formulate our own opinions.
Moses Brown fostered independent thought.”
Livia went on to Harvard and med school at
Columbia. Today, she teaches at the Touro College
of Osteopathic Medicine and is Chair of
Emergency Medicine at Vassar Brothers Medical
Center (N.Y.). The most satisfying part of
Livia’s workday is helping vulnerable patients.
She says the pandemic highlights the importance
of coordinated national planning: “We
really need to examine how we approach
health crises for all community members.”
