New bar in Nerja
Against all the odds in these difficult times Martin Tompsett and Gareth Ellis have re-opened the Anchor Sports Bar in Calle Ruperto Anduez , Nerja . A small comfortable bar showing all major sporting events concentrating on a friendly atmosphere .
Having previously owned and run the Clubhouse Sports Bar in Nerja , Gareth has been coaxed out of retirement by Martin , with Gareth ’ s expertise and Martin ’ s enthusiasm they will complement each other and make a great team . Martin a keen football fan and Gareth a keen rugby follower , they both share the love of golf so hopefully will have lots of talking points to share with customers old and new over a refreshing wine , beer or Guinness .

EXTRA NEWS BRIEFS Low reservoir
The first substantial rainfall for months hit the area on September 18 , but brought little relief to the low levels being experienced at the La Viñuela reservoir . Ice cream initiative
Torrox staged its first Ice Cream Route last month as part of its campaign to incentivise commerce in the town . Six restaurants took part in the event which invited people to vote for the best , as well as being entered in a draw with a top prize of a € 150 voucher to eat in the town . The town hall says it ’ s working on other initiatives which are “ very necessary at this time .”
New turf
Approval has been given to replace the artificial turf at the Vivar Téllez football ground in Vélez-Málaga . The ground is used by Vélez CF as well as by other sports groups and individuals .
Panther spotted ?
Residents of Ventas de Huelma , a small village 30 kilometres south-west of Granada , were alarmed last month after a large black cat , possibly a panther , was spotted just 300 metres away . Ground patrols supported by a Guardia Civil helicopter have searched the area but , although some tracks have been found , no animal has been detected . Panthers are protected animals and ownership requires a special license , but none is registered in the province .
