MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID is a 5 1 / 2 hour training course designed to give people key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis . The course will teach participants how to assist someone in crisis and non-crisis situations . Participants will learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental illness and how to support some one either developing a mental illness or has a diagnosis . The course does not teach participants how to diagnose , but to learn tools for conversations and skills to respond .
Just as CPR training helps a layperson without medical training assist an individual experiencing a heart attack , Mental Health First Aid training helps a layperson assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis . Join us for this important program , including CLE Credit .
LEARNING OBJECTIvES : The evidence behind Mental Health First Aid demonstrates that it makes people feel more comfortable managing a crisis situation and builds mental health literacy — helping the public identify , understand and respond to signs of mental illness . Specifically , studies found that those who were trained in Mental Health First Aid have greater confidence in providing help to others , greater likely hood of advising people to seek professional help , improved concordance with health professionals about treatments , and decreased stigmatizing attitudes .
* Participants will have to complete a 2-hour self paced portion of the program by October 29 , 2020 .
