(KAKE) - On Saturday evening September 14, 2019, 15-year-old Drew Bockover and his friends were riding golf carts around a Wichita neighborhood. At one point he flew off the back, landing on his head. Drew is a freshman at Bishop Carroll, he plays football, basketball and baseball. Doctors tell the Bockovers a brain injury as severe as Drew’s may prevent him from ever fully recover- ing. “Our whole life has been revolved around sports, so knowing that he might not get that opportunity ever again, that’s heartbreaking for him,” says his sister, Brooklyn Bockover. Drew’s family is overwhelmed with the commu- nity’s support. Many people across Wichita have sent gift cards for groceries and even brought meals to the hospital. 15-year-old Wichita boy suffers severe brain injury in golf cart accident “They know us, we might not know them but it’s still just like so heartwarming and humbling to be honest that these people would go out of their way to pray and do all that for us,” says Brooklyn. The Bockovers want to thank the community, especially their Catholic church family for their continued encouragement. “I think that thoughts and prayers is the number one thing. I mean time heals, so we just need time to figure out what’s next.” Bishop Carroll is holding an all school mass on Friday morning, giving the family an opportunity to thank the community. Also, Drew’s family is still accepting meals and if you would like to donate, visit his family’s Facebook profile or you can con- tribute to Drew’s gofundme. OCTOBER 2019 45
