Campaign launch- Hon Jo Goodhew at patient safety campaign launch
Reducing harm from falls is the first priority area of a new national patient safety campaign.
The campaign, which was launched on 17 May 2013, identifies simple changes in practice that can make a real difference to keeping patients safe.
Called Open for better care, the campaign is coordinated nationally by the Health Quality & Safety Commission and implemented regionally by district health boards( DHBs) and other health providers. It will run to mid-2015.
Open for better care is about providing the best care possible by:
• asking patients, family and whānau what matters to them
• teamwork – and respect for each other
• learning and improving all the time
• doing it right first time.
From May to September / October 2013, the campaign will promote initiatives to help reduce older people’ s falls, initially starting with hospital in-patient settings, but also including aged residential care and community settings.
