Poetry in motion
Owner of Marlboro’s In-Motion Motors, Glen
Davies, recently shared his experiences with aBr
having spent over two successful years in the
continually growing e-CAR service centre network.
➲ Customers are always complimenting the business on its
attractive branding and signage
D
avies matriculated from John Orr
Technical School in 1981 and was
soon drafted into the army, where he
did a stint at the Technical Services Corps.
He says that even though it was two years
of hard work at the army workshop, it wasn’t
foreign to him. “I come from a technical
background,” he explains. “My granddad
and eldest brother were both qualified
mechanics, and while growing up, we
repaired our cars at home.”
After leaving the army, Davies joined the
bank and worked there for 14 years. “Many
workshop managers and mechanics are
administratively challenged and operate
manually. It was an advantage working in
a bank because I learned how to manage
my finances and I became proficient with
using a computer. This has benefited me
greatly over the years.” Davies has managed
several workshops during his working career,
eventually starting his own business - InMotion Motors – in June 2012. He says that
the Marlboro area has a good combination of
residents and industrial businesses close by.
“This is a main access route and we believe
that we are in a prime business spot.”
He explains that it made good sense to
become a member of e-CAR. “I joined
e-CAR because it made viable business
sense. I had purchased most of my
equipment and there was very little capital
outlay to give the workshop a corporate
look and feel. Customers are also more
comfortable being associated with a
national network.”
➲ Davies primarily takes care
of customer’s diagnostic and
electrical issues
“One of the main benefits of being an
e-CAR member is that we have access to
an Auto Estimate System. We simply go
online, select a car by
make, model and year,
and select the relevant
parts as needed.
The system populates
a quotation which can
then be emailed directly
to the customer,” he
says. “Customers can
then book their cars

website.
The recently updated e-CAR website is
professional and easy to use,” he says.
Davies adds that while they cover engine
rebuilds, the company outsources most
of this work to engineering specialists.
Davies adds that he has embraced
technology.
“We use a Bosch KTS system to diagnose
all modern vehicles. It’s near impossible
for any workshop to operate without
diagnostic equipment. The KTS system
has assisted us to solve many problems.
We know exactly where to start looking
and to repair, which saves time and
money.”
Davies is complimentary of the fact that
e-CAR members receive preferential
rates from Diesel-Electric wholesalers,
who, he says, stock only the best brands.
In-Motion Motors is also an accredited
Matrix Tracking fitment centre. They are
RCS members too, which allows their
customers to pay for repairs using their
RCS cards. In addition, In-Motion Motors
boasts full AA Quality Assured certification
and RMI membership.
Davies maintains that honesty
is the best business philosophy.
“This industry has a tainted
name. I believe that customers
should pay for what they are
quoted for and in this way, you
can provide an honest service
and customers will always come
back,” he concludes.
