CTO has over 40 interns from the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) this year.
These interns, ages 16-21, work in the SYEP from June 30th to August 8th. These interns are in 12 groups at OCTO: CAO, Human Capital Management, Digital Inclusion, IT ServUs, Server Ops, IT Security, DC One-Card, Web Content, Facilities, GIS, DC-NET, and Applications.
SYEP gets together every Friday and hold an Intern Coaching Seminar hosted by the team at HCM. We hosted 4 in total.
The What OCTO Does? Seminar focused on how each department contributes to OCTO’s mission and included supervisors from each department including: Tim Abdella, Michael Black, Jimmy Ieng, Richard Drosin, Delano Squires, Mohammad Shibly and many more.
The OCTO Intern Alumni presentation showcased three former OCTO interns, who spoke about what they did here at OCTO, what they learned, and where they went from the OCTO internship.
Cherrelle Swain, a former intern at the Google Doc Training Group in Connect DC, spoke about graduating from Howard University and receiving her B.A. in International Business. She went on to speak about how she is currently working as an IT instructor at the LAYC Youth Public Charter School teaching kids about technology. http://youthbuildpcs.org/
Sean Fuller, a former intern at the Data Warehouse Group in Applications, graduated from UDC with a BSCS and was the former student body president. Fuller now works as a web designer at AIIM International (AIIM is responsible for PDF standards) and is the founder and CEO of Telework Portfolio, goal being to make it so everyone, including interns at the presentation, could telework. http://www.aiim.org/
Obinna Ukwuani, a former intern at IT Security, Digital Inclusion, and DC One Card. Obinna is a MIT Graduate who was a former Valedictorian of McKinley Technology High School.
