HAUTE DÉCOR
Some may say the most beautiful restaurant Winnipeg has ever seen.
We say beauty is only part of it. The food is pretty smashing too.

Ten Years ago Ciao! launched
Dine About Winnipeg, a restaurant event to celebrate local restaurants and bolster the dining scene during the icy temperatures of winter. Over the years, this multi-restaurant promotion has mobilized thousands of Winnipeggers to expand their culinary repertoire and discover new spots. Dine About Winnipeg has engaged the restaurant community, and the city’ s best chefs to showcase what they do, and offer it at an incredible price.
For many restaurants, presenting super-deals on their chef’ s creations at the beginning of February is a way of thanking regular patrons for their business throughout the year. In fact, cities across North America have joined the bandwagon, creating their own restaurant weeks, transforming dining downtime into a marathon of eating.
This year’ s event runs from Feb 1-11 th, and offers two price categories from which to choose. Prix fixe meals are set at $ 28 and $ 36 and the offers are designed to impress. Manitoba Pork’ s support as presenting sponsor for 2014 has enriched the menu offers too. There are many impressive dishes offered by chefs featuring interpretations of pork and a contest for diners to choose their favourites. Menus are listed in this issue of Ciao! and additional options are found on our website, ciaowinnipeg. com.
Don’ t procrastinate, you can expect these restaurants to fill up, and reservations are required.( You wouldn’ t want to be surprised by how many were coming over for dinner to your place would you?) Over the years, Dine About Winnipeg has introduced many people to new tastes and

places, and this year promises to do the same.
Also in this issue we go in the kitchen with Toui and Vileth Savangsengouthay of Bangkok Thai, who spend their days juggling cooking and running a restaurant with being cultural ambassadors for their homeland. Their story rings true for many new Canadians who integrate with a new region while honouring where they came from.
A local outdoor enthusiast has turned her love for sport and competition into a passion for business targeted to others who are committed to maximizing their performance. Colleen Dyck created GORP, a locally produced energy bar quickly becoming the smart calorie choice of champions near and far. Read more about these endeavours in our food sources feature, Entrepreneurial Adventures.
Since last month’ s top tables feature revealed our picks for the best new restaurants opened in 2013, we turned our focus this issue to restaurants that have been lasting favourites. This physically and mentally demanding industry is not for the faint of heart, and our choice eateries this issue prove their mettle with unwavering quality standards and commitment to details.
Enjoy this issue of Ciao! and all the great eating it will lead to.
