April is a big month at

Ciao! magazine. It marks the 11 th year of our annual Ciao! ChocolateFest presented by the Forks Market. Restaurants, cafes and bakeries are calling all chocoholics to try their creations throughout April. Featured desserts and cocktails are all offered at $ 7. A sample of the specials can be found on pages 22 and 23, and all the chocolate choices are available at www. ciaowinnipeg. com. Ciao! hounds are encouraged to submit photos of their favourite dishes that will be shared with Ciao! facebook followers. The Forks Market continues to mount a special event – Tour du Chocolat – as part of this cocoa celebration. See ciao! news for details.
Based on the premise that chocolate may be the most universally beloved flavour we set out to create an entirely chocolatefocused magazine. Our goal was to share some of the city’ s best cocoa in a variety of forms, to really make readers swoon. We went behind the scenes and spent some time with baker Pam Kirkpatrick at Cake-ology. She stirs chocolate into a number of her desserts and shows us how versatile a good cake and icing recipe can be. See the sweet spread on the pages of in the kitchen.
Look to ciao! news for our round up of edible and artful chocolate treats we discovered around town. One of our fabulous finds was used as the starting point for this issue’ s last course dessert.

Ciao! cooks takes a slightly different turn by revealing a few cocoa concoctions local bartenders are creating these days. Levon Kutcy of Rudy’ s Eat and Drink and Sean Barringer of 295 York share some tips and recipes that give this flavour a whole new personality. We are also launching our annual search for the best kitchen in the city with the Ciao! Kitchen Design Competition. Each year the entries continue to dazzle. They also reveal a high quality of excellence found in design and craftsmanship available in this city. If you have a kitchen that has been recently renovated and you are excited about showing it off to Ciao! readers, now is your chance. We have lined up Chef Gord Harris of Tapastry to host and cook a dinner part for six – in your new hearth. We will also photograph the winning kitchen to feature it as the centerpiece of our October issue. So ask yourself, do you own Winnipeg’ s best kitchen? If so visit www. ciaowinnipeg. com to enter. The deadline for entries is June 30 th! If you love your recent renovation, this contest is for you! And it could mean learning a few cooking tricks from one of the city’ s hottest chefs!
