STM: Jewelze where are you from?

JEWELZE: I was born and raised in West Philadelphia

STM: How long have you been writing?

JEWELZE: I’ve been writing for about 11 years just for recreation. I was playing around with a story one day and emailed an excerpt to my best friend. Normally, I would have never shared any of my writing with anyone because I felt that it was for my eyes only. I don’t know what moved me to share my work at all but I figured that if I was going to share it with anyone, I would share it with someone who knew me just as well as my mother. At least I knew that whatever feedback I received wasn’t going to be sugar coated. After she read it, she emailed me back and said, “Where’s the rest? How are you just going to leave me hanging like that?” It was at that moment I realized I could actually take my writing to another level.

STM: What inspire you to be an author?

JEWELZE: I was inspired by Anna J back in 2004. I met her at a signing for her book, “My Woman, His Wife”. I told her I was in the process of writing a book but I was worried that I wouldn’t find a publisher who would like my manuscript enough to publish it. So, I put writing on the back burner. She encouraged me to keep writing and do my research before shopping my manuscript around. Even while she was busy promoting her own book, she took time out to reassure me that I could be an author. I never forgot that.

STM: How many books do you have out now, and what is the current book out now?

JEWELZE: I did a short story for Anna J in June of 2011 for the first installment of her eBook, “Erotic Snapshots: Vol. 1”. It was called, “Lustful Violation”. My first full novel, “Emotional Ties” was published by Johnson Publications later that year. I have another book that I co-wrote with a very talented young man named, T. Real called, “Bitter Sweet: Revenge Served with a Twist”. It is due to be released this November. I have three more in the works; one of which is Emotional Ties 2: Deadly Connection.

STM: Do you have any favorite books of other authors?

JEWELZE: I’ve read so many great books over the years that it would be hard to choose. I love the works of Anna J., Lati’a Johnson, K’wan and J.M. Benjamin. The most recent book I read was, “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins which I couldn’t put down!

STM: What does Jewelze do in her social time?

JEWELZE: I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and every now and then, treating myself to a spa day.

STM: Have you done any book signing and when will be the next one?

JEWELZE: Since the release of my book, I have done signings non-stop almost every weekend. I slowed down a little over the summer. Now, I’m refreshed and looking forward to getting back out there and share my stories with readers. I just did a reading of Emotional Ties at Big Blue Marble Books on September 15th.

STM: What advice would you give a child that wants to become a writer and follow and your footsteps?

JEWELZE: One piece of advice I would give to a child is to never be afraid to pursue your dreams. Everyone has a story and with a little help, he or she can write it and share it with the world. There are going to be times when you want to give up but if writing is your passion, don’t let fear or doubt block you from telling your story.

STM: What do you want people to know about Jewelze?

JEWELZE: I love to watch old Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry cartoons and John Hughes movies. I have an eclectic taste in music. If you were to listen to my iPod, you would hear a little old school, hip-hop, jazz and some 80’s rock. I love the Ice Capades…Don’t judge me! (LOL)

STM: Where can your fans reach you at and purchase your books?

JEWELZE: I’m on facebook under Author Jewelze. Readers can also reach me on twitter (@Jewelze2011). I also have a website www.authorjewelze.com where readers can leave me messages. My books can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and on the Johnson Publications website (www.johnsonpublicationsbooks.com).

STM: Jewelze it was an honor to have stop by Social Therapy, I wish you much success.

JEWELZE: I thank you for the opportunity and much success to you as well.
