2018 Individual of the Year -
Kalpoo Brothers
The Kalpoo brothers, Navin
and Ravi, became local heroes
following
last
October’s
unprecedented flooding in
Central Trinidad, rushing out
to help rescue over 300 people
in distress in Kelly Village.
This instinct to serve those in
need was born through their
mother, Doolarie Kalpoo, who
was known for her tireless
community work. When she
lost her battle to cancer, the
brothers
continued
their
humanitarian work, always
lending a hand where needed
with no expectation to be
rewarded with fame or fortune.
At the award ceremony, the
Kalpoo brothers shared that
it was one year their mother
passed and they were privileged
to receive the award.
2018 Youth of the Year -
Nicholas Paul, Cyclist For this
20-year old, 2018 is a year
worth remembering.
Trinidad and Tobago cyclist
Nicholas Paul won the heart
of the Trinidad and Tobago’s
public when his speed on the
track earned him a new PAN
AM record, just short of a world
record. He won three gold
medals at the CAC Games in the
individual sprint, team sprint
and 1k time trial and ran away
with TV6 Viewer’s Choice Sports
Personality and Trinidad and
Tobago Olympic Committee
People’s Choice Award in 2018.
2018 Community Group of
the Year - The Living Water
Community
The Living Water Community
has been supporting thousands
of needy persons since 1975
and continues to do so with an
abundance of generosity from
citizens. Today they continue
to extend a helping hand to
families seeking refuge in
Trinidad after fleeing lives of
turmoil in their homeland.
During the 2018 Christmas
season, the group provided
over 1,500 hampers to asylum
seekers and needy families and
on Christmas Day, shared 2,500
meals to the less fortunate.
The Living Water Community
also continues to feed some
800 families nationwide every
month and does much more
without fanfare.
