Phagwa celebrations 2019
Pierre Road Recreational Ground’s, Charlieville | 24th March 2019
The team at Taj 92.3FM joined the community at Pierre Road,
Recreational Grounds, Charlieville and participated in the Annual
Phagwa Festival.
Phagwa is a religious festival that is celebrated by the Hindu
Community in Trinidad and Tobago and across the world. Also
called Holi, it is the observance of the Spring Festival was first
introduced to Trinidad by indentured East Indian labourers around
1845.
Even though Phagwa is primarily a Hindu festival, in Trinidad it is
also celebrated by the wider community.
At Phagwa, there is a Carnival-like atmosphere where willing
participants, dance, sing and are sprayed with a variety of brightly
coloured abeer.
