Buy Organic!

Organic methods of farming utilize the natural Earth rather than using harmful chemical fertilizers that predominatly enter the oceans and are known to be the leading cause of hypoxia.11

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint!

Global warming poses a major threat to ocean dead zones because rainfall patterns would change and cause for greater runoff.

Conserve Wetlands and Floodplains!

These areas act as filters for nutrients and runoff to the ocean. So, make sure that they are in good condition so that these ecosystems will run naturally within the environment in an effort to support eachother. 16

Ocean dead zones pose serious threats to our environment and it is especially important that we work to prevent, preserve, and protect the areas threatened by this serious issue.

Conseve Water!

Ocean dead zones are at great risk from sewage or waste entering the water. So, it is very important to conserve water so that the amount of wasted water necesssary for treatent and poissible entrance into the water is ultimately decresed.

Spread Awareness!

Tell your friends, family, neighbors, teaachers, etc,. This issue is a serious threat to the well-being of our planet and it is important that everyone is aware!

Be Mindful Around your Home!

While washing your car, make sure to use alternitive methods such as washing it on the grass, becuase it will soak up the nutrients rather than having them wash out to the ocean!

Use Safe Cleaning Products!

While using cleaning products, make sure to use commercial non-toxic cleaning products, home sustitutions/remidies, or to start using healthy home cleaning habits. If chemicals are used, take to a recycling center rather than letting wash down the drain.15

Donate!

There are many more innovative ways to help the ocean which many researchers have begun to advance. So, make sure that you donate to programs that are helping to preserve these areas. Links to websites that you can donate to will be posted on the following pages. 14

Drive Less!

Emmisions from vehicles release nitrogen into the air which is the leading effect to this ongoing issue within our oceans.

Don't use fertilizers!

On your lawn, backyard, or anywhere with a landscaping technique. If you use less fertilizer, prevent eroison, and use native plants, you will have cleaner runoff and help end the issues with harmful runoff.15
