Ocean acidification has been proven to be harmful to many different ocean species, including calcifying organisms, squid, fish, and coral reefs. The low pH of the water poses a physical threat to these organisms. Calcifying organisms are far more prone to dissolution, and many species suffer from hypercapnia, a C02 induced acidification of bodily fluids. If we intend on keeping these organisms safe, we must figure out a way to put an end to ocean acidification.
Changes in ocean chemistry can have extensive direct and indirect effects on organisms and their habitats.
