New RCOT rehabilitation resources launched
New resources have been launched on rehabilitation
to support members during and after the COVID-19
pandemic.
A new quick guide is available, as well as an RCOT Informed
View, setting out the Royal College’s considered view and
direction on the topic. A new webpage has also been launched
as a one-stop page for information on rehabilitation as it
becomes available.
Lauren Walker, RCOT professional adviser, said: ‘We have
launched these resources as members are telling us that the
need for rehabilitation has never been greater. This isn’t just
about the numbers of COVID-19 patients who need support after
hospital discharge, but also about all those people who need
support through this period of social isolation and distancing.
‘Services are meeting these new needs on top of the life-
changing work they were already delivering, and with staff
numbers that are can rapidly change because of redeployment,
self-isolation and shielding.
‘The new resources today offer information to members
on rehabilitation, and they will be updated through this fast-
changing situation to provide the most up-to-date detail on how
we can continue to make a difference.’
The new resources follow on from the Right to Rehab
campaign that was launched by RCOT alongside the Chartered
Society of Physiotherapy and charity Sue Ryder in February,
asking politicians to ensure that rehabilitation is available to all
who need it.
A report launched during the campaign warned that failing
to provide these services can have devastating consequences
for people’s lives, and bring greater costs for the NHS and
social care systems.
