USA: Slack Incorporated (4th ed) Christiansen C and Townsend E (2014) Introduction to occupation: the art of science and living. USA: Pearson Schwank et al (2018) conducted a longitudinal observational study to examine occupational therapy students’ self-efficacy for therapeutic use of self, following attendance at an introductory Intentional Relationship Model (IRM) workshop. Students from two Norwegian universities (n=89) completed self-efficacy questionnaires related to the use of self after attending an IRM workshop, and again at three- and 10-months post-workshop. Changes in self-efficacy for therapeutic mode use, for recognising interpersonal characteristics and for managing interpersonal events were analysed with repeated measures ANOVA. Findings included that there were significant changes in scores for all three of these areas across time. The authors identify that students may experience a boost in self-efficacy for therapeutic use of self after an IRM workshop and that these changes can be sustained over time. To accompany the day and the project itself the students created a website: www.mindfulness-project.co.uk. The website was adopted by the Shout crisis text line as a resource to be used for people in crisis. ‘The museum has since won a family award and has praised us for our contribution to the success of getting that, and we have had coverage about the day in our local newspaper. ‘Having the opportunity to do a project within the community really allowed us to spread the word about how beneficial the work of occupational therapy can be and it was a great opportunity to gain experience alongside our studies. ‘It allowed us to consolidate the knowledge we are learning in our course and to be autonomous in executing an idea, but with the support of a supervisor at university. We are very grateful to Hastings Museum and Art gallery for collaborating with us on this project.
