Around Town

In an effort to increase the reliability and capacity of the transmission power system to the Ocala community, Ocala Electric Utility has doubled the capacity at Ergle Substation located at 4255 NE 38th Terrace by adding a 230kV to 69kV transformer. The expansion will ensure OEU customer’s power needs are met now and in the future.

There is an A Frame Structure that holds 230 kV lines fed from Seminole Electric. Additional breakers were installed: (1) 230kV (2) 69kV and a tie breaker. By installing a tie breaker to both 69 kV breakers switching can occur between the 69kV line segments. This increases restoration efficiency for unforeseen issues, preventable maintenance repairs, and customer power outages. To complete the project, additional control relays were added and reconfigured. Additional ground grid containing copper wire buried 2’ in the ground was also added to further protect the system.
