Ocala Electric Utility Volume 3 Issue 3 | Page 13

On Oct. 2nd Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) and Mid-State Electric began underground electrical conduit installation for Osceola Trak. The first phase started with the installation of underground conduit, conductors, electric transformers and switches. The second phase is removing overhead services between SR 40 and NE 5th St.

For pedestrian and traffic safety OEU crews worked early morning hours Saturday, December 16 to remove overhead electric lines and power poles along Osceola. To complete phase 1 the overhead conductors and poles were removed from SE 3rd St to SR 40. This was a huge undertaking that required a lot of planning, coordination, and teamwork from OEU crews. The downtown skyline has a much cleaner look.

Downtown Ocala is reshaping with the Osceola Trak Project, Farmers Market, expansion of Citizen Circle, and the new, upcoming, downtown hotel. Decorative lighting, similar to the lights surrounding the Downtown Square, has also been installed along the Osceola Trak. People will soon be able to walk and enjoy a 15’ wide paved trial consisting of benches, landscaping, and picnic tables beginning at the Farmers Market on SE 3rd Street and ending at the Art Park on NE 5th St. The project has a completion date of December 2018.
