When are Risings held?

February

Worldwide, most Risings are held on or around V-Day, February 14th. In the U. S., February is also Black History Month, and we encourage Risings to acknowledge the intersections of racial violence, anti-Black violence, gender-based violence, and honor the contributions of Black women and girls( cisgender and transgender) and gender expansive people.
VOICES: A Sacred Sisterscape Audio Play is a new creative tool directed by aja monet that embodies these intersections and can be a part of your Rising activities and offering.

March

March is Women’ s History Month, with many Risings happening around International Women’ s Day, March 8th. This period highlights the global struggle for gender equality and recognizes the struggles, contributions and achievements of women and girls, cisgender, transgender, and those with fluid gender-identities throughout history. Artistic expressions that honor these voices and stories can connect local movements to broader international movements.
The song“ Nos Estamos Levantando,” sung in Spanish, bridges movements in the U. S. with those throughout Latin America. You can find a full list of OBR songs in other languages here.

April

April is Earth Month, with many Risings occurring during this month and centered around Earth Day, April 22nd. April risings often highlight the ways that environmental destruction, economic violence, and climate change exacerbate gender-based violence.
Artist and activist Alixa Garcia, designed a poster for the Raise the Vibration campaign which centralizes nature as our identity and power.
