on the time machine and make sure it didn ’ t break down . It sounded like an interesting job and would certainly look impressive on my resume .
Knowing the importance of first impressions , I decided to eschew my more casual clothing , instead opting for a suit , tie , and fancy leather shoes . I arrived on time at the front desk of the Quantum Horizons building . The security guard told me to take the elevator on the left down into the basement , where I would meet the director of the facilities . I complied .
As the elevator descended , I mentally prepared myself for the interview to come . I really needed this job . I decided to act like the confident timetravel enthusiast they were so eagerly seeking to hire . At last , I heard a ding , the elevator doors opened , and I caught my first glimpse of my future employer . But he wasn ’ t the polished , professional engineer I was expecting . Instead , standing in front of me was a disheveled man in sweatpants and a coffee-stained sweatshirt . Looking past him , I could see the large , magnificent time machine in all its glory . It was hanging from the ceiling above a circular indentation in the ground . It looked similar to a telescope , but much larger and more complex . Intricate control panels lined the walls of the room . The man spoke , bringing my gaze back to reality . “ Hey , kid ,” he said , snapping his fingers . “ Snap out of it !” He stared at me for a moment , analyzing my appearance . “ What ’ s with the outfit ?” he asked . “ What is this , a wedding ?” he continued . “ I take it you ’ re the new recruit . Good . We need some extra help around here .” He stopped talking , and we stared at each other for a long , static moment . “ I ’ m here for the job interview , sir .”
