Bunelleschi was a very proud and arrogant individual , and allegedly after “ losing complete control … Brunelleschi stormed out of the competition … and quit the city of Florence altogether ” and instead moved to Rome (“ Medici : Godfathers of the Renaissance ”). In the coming years , Italians would witness an emblematic comeback story where a man would transform into a human icon .
During the Renaissance , the Italians entered an unprecedented rebirth following the artistic dearth of the Middle Ages . It would be remiss to discuss the success of the Renaissance and not mention the names Filippo Brunelleschi and Lorenzo Ghiberti . Ghiberti ’ s magnificently crafted panels of the baptistry remained the focal point of Florentine life and were a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of one of the great pioneers of the Early Renaissance . Brunelleschi , on the other hand , used the loss of the competition as fuel to galvanize himself and become the preeminent figure of the Early Renaissance . He decided to “ concentrate his talents on architecture rather than sculpture ” (“ Filippo Brunelleschi ,” Britannica ). Brunelleschi ’ s success started with his rediscovery of the fundamental “ principles of linear perspective ” (“ Filippo Brunelleschi ,” Infobase ). This staple of Renaissance art included orthogonal lines leading to a vanishing point , which empowered artists of the Renaissance to create a more logical sense of depth , space , and perspective to their paintings .
Fifteen years following the loss of the competition for the doors of the Baptistry , the “ cantankerous ” Brunelleschi received his highly anticipated rematch against Ghiberti for the design of the Dome that would finish the cathedral in Florence (“ Filippo Brunelleschi ,’’ Infobase ).
