One last thing I remember about my grandmother is that she was extremely proud of her Irish heritage . Whether it was the Irish bumper stickers on her car , the Waterford trinkets spread throughout her house , the Aran sweaters she wore , or her listening to “ Ceol na nGael ” on WFUV , my grandmother was Irish to the core . She even preferred Irish “ cuisine ” to all other foods . She made us laugh when she said , “ I never met a potato that I didn ’ t like ,” but it was true . She never forgot where she came from .
Today , I am also proud to be Irish , and a large part of that is because of my family . I am very proud to be the grandson of a determined woman who achieved her American dream and more .
