Okay To Be Me Biographical Poem Inspired by Langston Hughes
I ’ m twelve , born and raised in New York City , In a neighborhood right by Columbia University That has everything I need : An ice cream store , a park And a fast food Chinese restaurant . I love the spicy tofu And the tangy , slightly sweet chicken . I love going for long walks in the park . I love the whistle of the birds And the sight of the Hudson right next to me . But what makes me love our house the most Is the piano . I play piano .
Piano is interesting because somehow Music connects with my entire family . My five cousins and my one brother , All of my aunts and even my mom All play an instrument . They all went to Julliard , all talented , All connected with different composers — My family has played it all .
