DAY 13 • Fogo • Mosteiros coffee plantation visit • Ponta da Salinas fishing village
Continue exploring Fogo with a visit to one of the local coffee plantations in the city of Mosteiros , where coffee is produced on the slopes of Pico do Fogo . Here , we ’ ll weave our way through the plantations and enjoy panoramic views of the ocean along the way . Then , we ’ ll stop at Ponta da Salinas , a small fishing village on a local beach surrounded by ancient lava formations , perfect for calm swimming waters .

DAY 14 • At sea Say farewell to Cape Verde as we set sail to Banjul , the capital city of tiny The Gambia . It will take us two full days of cruising to reach The Gambia , during which time you can enjoy the ship ’ s amenities and the company of your fellow travelers .

DAY 15 • At sea Continue sailing to the Bijagos Islands . Enjoy views of the Atlantic and the West African coastline as we get closer .

DAY 16 • Banjul , The Gambia • Explore Tanji Fishing Center • Yabouy Home Cooking Class • Visit crocodile pool
Today we ’ ll explore Banjul , the capital city of the tiny West African nation of The Gambia . We ’ ll visit the Tanji Fishing Center , where locals come to buy , sell , and smoke fish caught in the nearby waters . We ’ ll also enjoy a cooking class at Yabouy Home Cooking , the home of founder , Ida Cham Njai , and savor our meal together . Then , we ’ ll drive inland to Kachikally , a crocodileinfested pool that ’ s traditionally used for sacred fertility rituals .

DAY 18 • Banjul • Makasuto Culture Forest Begin today driving to Makasuto Culture Forest , a beautiful and diverse woodland reserve with several ecosystems , including an expansive riverine , palm and hardwood-forests , mangrove creeks , savannas , and salt-flats . Here , we ’ ll go on a nature walk in the company of a local guide who will point out various tree species , such as mahogany , rhun palms , and baobab . We may even see different species of birds , monkeys , and lizards along the way . This evening , your ship sets sail for Dakar .

DAY 19 • Disembark ship • Return to U . S . This morning , disembark the ship in Dakar , Senegal and catch your return flight home to the U . S . Or , begin your Senegal & Morocco : Dakar , Marrakesh & Casablanca post-trip extension .

DAY 17 • Banjul • Kunta Kinteh Island • Visit Museum of Slavery
We ’ ll take a ferry to Albreda , once a slave trading fort , to visit the Museum of Slavery for a harrowing look into the past of the slave trade in the Gambia . Then , we ’ ll visit Kunta Kinteh Island , a UNESCO World Heritage Site
