DAY 8 • Sarajevo Tunnel • Home- Hosted Dinner Today , we focus on Sarajevo ’ s more recent past , including the aftermath of Yugoslavia ’ s break-up in 1992 . We ’ ll visit the Sarajevo Tunnel , a passage dug in 1993 to ferry people out and bring supplies into the city . Tonight , sit down for a Home-Hosted Dinner with families who lived along “ Sniper Alley ” during the war .

DAY 9 • Karanac , Croatia • Dinner with local families Journey overland to Croatia ’ s province of Baranja , an important part of Croatia ’ s “ breadbasket .” Then , in Karanac , join a local family for dinner in their home and spend the night at the farmstead .

DAY 10 • A Day in the Life of Karanac village • Zagreb Before breakfast , we ’ ll experience A Day in the Life of the village when we help out our hosts around the farm . Then , we ’ ll meet a local pottery master , take a village stroll , and have lunch at the farmstead . Later , we journey overland to Zagreb .

DAY 11 • Zagreb Set off on a walking tour of Donji Grad , or Lower Town , home to many of Zagreb ’ s monuments . Then , take a funicular ride to view the medieval monuments in Gornji Grad , or Upper Town . We ’ ll also visit the open-air stalls of Dolac Market , followed by a free afternoon to explore independently .

DAY 12 • Zagreb • Croatian countryside Explore the quaint villages of Zagorje . Our first stop is Klanjec , birthplace of legendary Croatian sculptor Antun Augustincic . After seeing his works at the Antun Augustincic Gallery , visit the village of Kumrovec , an open-air museum focusing on traditional ways of life a century ago .

DAY 13 • Opatija • Plitvice Lakes Explore Plitvice Lakes , home to 16 turquoise lakes linked by waterfalls and cascades . After a walking tour along the wooden footbridges there , we continue to the seaside resort town of Opatija , set along the Adriatic coast .

DAY 14 • Opatija • Optional Hill Towns of Istria tour Today is at leisure in Opatija , or you may join our optional Hill Towns of Istria tour , which includes a visit to Motovun , a typical Istrian lunch , and a visit to the medieval town of Hum .

DAY 15 • Ljubljana , Slovenia • Postojna Caves On our way to Ljubljana , we ’ ll stop for a visit to Postojna Cave , an underground labyrinth in eastern Slovenia . After lunch , we ’ ll arrive at Slovenia ’ s charming capital of Ljubljana . A walking tour will highlight the quaint bridges and narrow streets of the city ’ s café-lined Old Town .
