DAY 5 • Raft the Urubamba River • Ollantaytambo Inca Fortress • Home- Hosted Lunch Visit the splendid ruins of Ollantaytambo , including its ancient fortress , baths , and huge terraces guarding its hilltop temples . After your explorations , take a rafting trip down the Urubamba River . Then , enjoy a Home-Hosted Lunch with a Peruvian family , where you ’ ll sample the locally made corn beer .

DAY 6 • Train ride through the Sacred Valley • Machu Picchu Travel by train to Machu Picchu , the legendary “ Lost City of the Incas ” and a UNESCO World Heritage Site . See remnants of the Ritual Baths , Palace of the Princess , the Main Fountain , and the Sun and Condor temples . Later , arrive at our hotel , which is conveniently located near the base of Machu Picchu , so you can explore the ruins long after tour groups have departed .

DAY 7 • Machu Picchu Rise early to drive back to Machu Picchu , when the ruins are quiet and uncrowded . Wander the sprawling ruins on your own , or , depending on which trails are open , choose to hike to the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge .

DAY 8 • Train ride through the Sacred Valley • Colonial Cuzco This morning transfer to Cuzco by train and bus , arriving in time for lunch at a local restaurant . This afternoon , explore Cuzco on a walking tour ,
including the site of the Qoricancha Sun Temple and the heart of the city at the Plaza de Armas .

DAY 9 • A Day in the Life of Izcuchaca & Chinchero villages • GCF visit : Cruzpata School • Controversial Topic : The Chinchero airport Begin our A Day in the Life discoveries in Izcuchaca — a village where we ’ ll visit a local market . Then , ascend into the nearby mountains to enjoy Chinchero village , where we ’ ll visit a local elementary school ( when in session ) supported by Grand Circle Foundation . Then , share lunch with the Chinchero community before heading to a local weaving cooperative . Here , we ’ ll discuss the Controversial Topic of the Chinchero airport and concerns about its impact on ancient Incan culture .

DAY 10 • Southern Valley of Cuzco • Sacsayhuaman & Qenqo Head south from Cuzco to Tipon , the site of ancient Incan waterworks that still function 500 years after their construction . Then , drive into the hills near Cuzco to visit the massive Sacsayhuaman fortress , which the Incas built from huge stones weighing up to 300 tons . Then , witness Kenko , an Incan worship site which also displays impressive stonework . This evening , enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant .
